After the outstanding success of last week’s “Offices & Gentlemen” – by Alan Bennett, the Huddersfield Thespians are looking for two talented actresses to play the parts of screen legend, Margaret Rutherford and crime-writer extraordinaire, Agatha Christie in our April production of “Murder, Margaret & Me” by Philip Meeks, which will run from 17 to 21 April 2018.

OPEN Auditions will be held on THURSDAY 15 FEBRUARY, with rehearsals starting later this month.

Synopsis

Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie didn’t want Margaret Rutherford to bring her fabled spinster to life. And Margaret Rutherford was mortified at the prospects of sullying her reputation with something as sordid as murder…

This is the story of the real reason why the acting legend and “the funniest woman alive” didn’t want to take on the role that made her celebrated across the world. Margaret and Agatha form an unlikely friendship filled with high tea, brandy snaps and gossip. Meanwhile Agatha turns detective herself and she’s on a mission. She’s determined to unearth Rutherford’s tragic and shocking secret.

Roles

Margaret Rutherford

British character actress of stage, television and film, best known in her later career as the original screen Miss Marple.

Actress needs to be able to act with the “essence of Margaret Rutherford, and her affectations” but NOT do an impersonation. She should be reasonably large framed in stature.

Agatha Christie

Renowned for her detective novels and short story collections, particularly those revolving around her fictional detectives Poirot and Miss Marple.

Actress needs to smaller than Margaret Rutherford, to act prim and proper and in short, be terribly British!

These roles are open to any actress with a playing age of late 40s and above – HOWEVER in casting the roles the two actresses need to look of similar age to each other, be they both late 40s, late 50s or whatever. The two women were in real life only two years apart in age.

If you interested in either of these parts, then please contact  casting@huddersfieldthespians.co.uk to register an interest for the auditions, which will take place on THURSDAY 15 FEBRUARY 2018 from 7.30pm at Oakes Mills West.
